Disney and Apple, Sitting in a Tree
- throw9away6 3y agoDisney is pretty toxic in the current political environment. I think the risk of buying them greatly outweighs any possible benefit
- pohl 3y agoDisney is not toxic. Ordinary people don’t care for the culture war bullshit they’re being targeted with.
- acdha 3y agoThey’re a political target of the fringe right but don’t confuse noise with success: there are billions of dollars poured into making those talking points sound mainstream but most people don’t agree. Disney’s parks are crowded, every kid in America knows their characters, and Disney+ has something like 140M subscribers, they’re fine.
- havblue 3y agoYou can think of what Apple would get from buying Disney: 2 movie studios, a major television network, 2 more streaming services, some cable channels, several theme parks, a cruise ship company... I can't see Apple wanting to shell out for this, especially in the middle of multiple strikes. Apple might want the rights to existing IP for streaming as well as merchandising rights but I doubt they would buy several companies, not to mention invite antitrust complaints, that they don't want just to get it. Clearly they would grow their value more by concentrating on enterprise and finance.
