It's par for the course, but I still find it weird that venues and organizers take fringe minority views so seriously. There's no way most people are actually up on who the crazies think you need to be mad at, they just want to go watch a show*. If we just ignored them they'd go away, but they continue to, apparently, wield outsized power. The correct response is "f-off" and not engaging with them.
* maybe that's part of why the "cancel culture" stuff works, because the other side of the coin is people may or may not hear that someone they may or may not vaguely know about was cancelled over ideology, and so it doesn't have much impact on public perception outside of the professionally aggrieved that start this stuff.
P.S. I'd like to think HN doesn't want to discuss it because it leads to predictable arguments, but I doubt that's actually why it got flagged.
