Started up as a website for me to complain about my job on... then gathered my family and friends stories about their jobs and workplaces, then invited the world to tell their stories and it has evolved into articles beyond rants and shares knowledge of jobs, careers, and the workplace. I only saw one or two other similar websites that rose up, got featured in some news article, and eventually withered away.
I just kept writing my articles and accepting more in emails and publishing them. It really helped for the fact that I've been in the corporate world ever since I began the website, and the material I could write about is endless. I've also published for companies when they were just starting up and now they are huge million dollar businesses, such as Canva, when they were trying to market and sent me several articles on their product.
For years, I had been running media.net ads on it and was making about $200 a year from those ads, but then they upped their restrictions and wanted websites to pull in at least $100/month... no control over that so they cancelled me. Didn't matter to me... and although I wanted to let the website go a few times, I just keep getting more emails from people who love the concept and want to contribute.
I had never planned to make money from it and it was never enough to quit my day job, but I get enough money each year to pay for the hosting costs. It was just my hobby and connection to my true passion, though there's only more schooling and not enough money that way.
Publishing is free, but I charge for the priority of the article. It receives about 2 million visits a month and I have my loyal contributors and marketing agencies who love publishing on the website with new ones discovering the website all the time.
The website is free to publish an article on, but with free comes the wait time: it can take up to 2 or 3 weeks to get published. From first email to last emails, it's actually about a month. There are many who don't want to wait, and that is where payment comes in to make the article a priority and get it published faster. I have followed a schedule for years: 3 articles per day, 5 days a week. It works.
It is 10 years old and probably earns about $50 a month.
