Ask HN: Best tool to proof-read technical documentation?
I have around 80+ pages of technical documentation in markdown (with mixed in HTML where needed). Best tool to proof-read them? Mainly looking for spelling/grammatical errors. ChatGPT used to work great for this, but I've noticed today that it misses simple spelling errors.
- kelthan 3y agoTake a look at Vale: https://vale.sh/ https://vale.sh/
- darkhorse13 3y agoThank you, this is pretty much what I needed.
- devonnull 3y agoA good human proofreader? :-) Though I do second the suggestion about Vale.
- darkhorse13 3y agoI'm going to proof-read them anyway, but it's so easy to miss stuff when you're reading and writing all these things yourself.
- jethronethro 3y agoWho says the human proofreader needs to be the person who wrote whatever needs to be proofread? That's usually what you don't want to do, for the reason you mentioned.
- jethronethro 3y ago> ChatGPT used to work great for this, but I've noticed today that it misses simple spelling errors I've noticed that with GPT 4; 3.5 still works pretty well. Or did the last time I used it for something like this (which was a few weeks ago).
- darkhorse13 3y agoHmm so I was trying with 3.5 actually.
- jethronethro 3y agoHmm indeed. Well, in my defense, it's been a few weeks since I tried something like that using 3.5. Wonder what may have happened to cause the results to deteriorate.
