Ex-Linus Tech Tips employee alleges mistreatment and poor conditions
- nullindividual 3y agoLinus blatantly displays his mistreatment of employees on his various shows. Outright calling them to task while live streaming.
- FirmwareBurner 3y agoYeah, Linus Tech Tips has become the Andrew Tate of tech reviewers. Greedy, sleezy, exploitative, too full of himself. At least in the past he wasn't pretending to be professional reviewer, and was just having fun with his goofball friends doing crazy experiments in his garage like heating your house with your PC, or daisy-chaining the maximum number pf PCI-E extenders for fun experiments, or water-cooling their Red cinema camera, and those were entertaining. But now he doesn't even do content like that anymore and became just an influencer farming out low quality click bait content ("I'm reviewing the cheapest junk off AliExpress") from his media empire built on the sweat of exploiting gullible young people who look up to him and aspire to be like him, while pleading poverty and pretending to be an accurate source of information because he now owns a lab and testing equipment, but has no qualified staff on hand because qualified technical staff costs real money and doesn't like being exploited for peanuts just to get followers on their Instagram accounts. I feel sorry for their staff and for the younger viewers who will grow up with such junk as their source for tech information.
- soupbowl 3y agoThis is a funny take, Linus Tate lol, a little unhinged though.
- MichaelZuo 3y agoI've noticed this happens quite a lot even with folks that seemed moderately likable when they were younger, they become sleazy prima donnas when given even a small amount of fame or fortune.
- Apocryphon 3y agoHey wait. LTT’s specific in-organization sins aside, isn’t their content a common YouTube tech genre? Are Austin Evans, Dawid Does Tech Stuff, the Toasty Bros, etc. also to be faulted for making reviews?
- slikrick 3y agoHe had one of them hold a monitor for him during a video, literally used his employee as a table stand
- drapado 3y agoNever go full Blizzard
- animitronix 3y agoOh shit, the dirt is flying fast and furious now... His response to the Billet thing raised by GamerNexus was just absurd too! How the mighty have fallen.
- martin8412 3y agoLTT has always been a clown show. It's to be viewed as entertainment, not serious content. LTT is the IT equivalent of Top Gear/Grand Tour in motorsports. You laugh at them because of how stupid they are.
- FirmwareBurner 3y ago>LTT is the IT equivalent of Top Gear/Grand Tour in motorsports. You're insulting Top Gear. Top Gear is at least funny.
- Pxtl 3y agoAnd? Top Gear insults a lot of people too.
- FirmwareBurner 3y ago>Top Gear insults a lot of people too. Yes, and? Top Gear is auto entertainment show aimed at adults, not a church gathering for kids, so of course they'll insult people
- martin8412 3y agoWell, it's a matter of opinion. I do agree, and I love watching it. Even then I'd never take it as serious reporting on cars/motorsports. It's great entertainment, even with the real life problematic behavior of Clarkson.
- Ekaros 3y agoAnd competent in their incompetence... I haven't watched LTT in long time, but it always fell short...
- lijok 3y agoWho could've predicted that Linus Sex Tips, a self admitted high school bully who started an onlyfans as a joke, famous for losing his shit on camera and being careless, has fostered an atmosphere in his one-man-show of a company, which competes with that of Blizzard. He did give up his reigns as CEO. Now he needs to let go of the majority shareholder position and get his ADHD treated. If he does that, stays as CVO and the company stops with the ludicrous daily upload schedule, they may find themselves embracing normal.
- Fluorescence 3y agoI can't believe people like Luke have no equity for decade+ of grind and now CTO. No union, no equity, poorly paid, sweatshop with added sexual harassment. Made all the worse by how regularly he brags about how much money he has while saying he won't spend $100 to fix a review they totally fucked up. Oh and he wants you to come round to his huge new house to do chores on camera "for a video". Yuck.
- FirmwareBurner 3y ago>I can't believe people like Luke have no equity for decade+ of grind and now CTO. What leverage does Luke have? He's a CEO only in title, not in experience or qualifications. He went from university, straight to being CTO, purely because he's Linus's high-school friend, without any prior experience in the tech industry engineering trenches. From his WAN show talks, his knowledge about web technologies and SW development seem to be very superficial, limited to what he gathers from talking with the engineers, but no deeper understanding of it, which is weird considering he's the CTO of a video streaming company. Who would hire him to be CTO anywhere else? He's just Linus's henchman at Floatplane, not an actual CTO. It's the deal of his life. Get paid big bucks to be an inflated middle manager, best friend of the CEO. He's not gonna find a better deal with equity anywhere else. >saying he won't spend $100 to fix a review they totally fucked up. Oh and he wants you to come round to his huge new house to do chores on camera "for a video". Yuck. Yeah, that's the fucked up part. Despite now having the lab equipment to do so, he refuses to do due diligence when testing, because that costs extra time and money pleading poverty over 100-500 USD, but has no restraint in flashing his McMansion with heated pool and Porsche Supercar, with plenty of labor on house claimed as tax-writeoffs ("you see tax-man, this heated pool is actually a cooling system for my server which I use for work, and the project is featured in several work videos for the company so it's tottaly a business expense").
- gloryjulio 3y agoIt's a successuful startup story just that it's not a typical tech company. It's not surprised that how hypocritical and questionable Linus is where he chases growth at all cost
- Ekaros 3y agoAlso should be remembered that the employees haven no equity, not even the original ones. So the whole grinding out insane amount of work for insane amount of content really does not help them a bit.
- Pxtl 3y agoLinus needs to take a leave of absence while somebody who's an expert at this cleans up his business and removes the problem people. And when he comes back he needs to be properly trained on workplace professionalism and he needs to just be a spokesman and not leadership. These two back-to-back scandals show that LTT has an extreme culture and leadership problem, and that looks like a reflection of Linus' personality. My big worry is that whether or not they fix it, a company like this is fueled by goodwill. They've lost that goodwill, they'll lose their revenue, and that means the company will shrink and the most vulnerable employees will get laid off in a city with an outright dystopian cost-of-living crisis.
- Pxtl 3y agoSomething weird here - is the upvote hidden on this post for anybody else?
- Racing0461 3y agoHe should have just let the new ceo handle this pr nightmare.
- kamikaz1k 3y agoHow big is LTT? The tweet about doing internal investigations seems weird but I didn’t think they had more than dozen employees…
- jffry 3y ago"As of May 2023, it has over 100 full-time employees.[2]" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linus_Media_Group https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linus_Media_Group
- vogon_laureate 3y ago150 was mentioned in one of their videos.

- pests 3y agoThey have grown pretty fast the last few years. They produce about 17 videos a week now.
