The iMac and the return of Jobs really felt like a fresh new start for Apple at the time. However, after a while the design language was picked up by other brands ... and you could see translucent and coloured plastic on pretty much all types of products for a while: from PCs to home electronics to toilet paper holders, and by then it started to feel a little tacky.

Doesnt this lend to that it was all marketing/psychology tricks? I hate reading how easily humans are exploited.

  The iMac was a marketing trick? I dunno about that, it might have been just the right internet appliance at the right time.
