- anigbrowl 3y agoThe subheading on this is unusually good: You can always count on conspiracy theorists to make a tragedy worse. There's a desperate need for a strategy about information pollution - not just fact-checking or refutation (which is staggeringly inefficient, and amounts to a theft of time from well-informed/sincere people disputing stupid or mendacious claims), but in identifying the dynamics and actors involved.

I always think back to the parents who lost their young children at Sandy Hook and were then subjected to vile conspiracy theories. There is no consequence too harsh for those people (speaking specifically of that instance—and I do mean it quite literally).
