Help me out, please. What is the definition of fertility rate being used here? Do they actually mean birth rate? As in population growth? Vs the physical condition of being fertile?
Or perhaps it's me who has confused the two? Sorry??

- chiefalchemist 3y agoThank you. That helped. But gawd, talk about a label that's misleading. What is used to measure actual fertility? That is, the ability to reproduce given the desire to do so? For example, somewhat similarly, sperm count rates are falling. That, I presume effects the ability to reproduce. What's the similar for females?
- andromeduck 3y agoIt's empirical.
- tuatoru 3y agoOne accepted measure of actual fertility is CC50, cohort completed fertility at age 50 years. (At 50, childbearing is almost universally at an end.) > Cohort fertility is another measure of fertility, tracing the fertility experience of women born in a particular year. It measures the average number of births that women born in a particular year have at each age from 13 to 49 years of age. Summing these age-specific rates gives the completed fertility rate by year of birth, that is, the average number of births a woman born in a particular year has had during her lifetime.[1] 1. https://www.stats.govt.nz/reports/parenting-and-fertility-trends-in-new-zealand-2018 https://www.stats.govt.nz/reports/parenting-and-fertility-tr...
- chiefalchemist 3y agoBut if male sperm counts are dropping (and they are, at least in most industrial / post-industrial societies), how is that accounted for? It takes two to tango when it comes to pregnancy, sans a fertility clinic, eh. Doesn't the lack of accounting for it (i.e., sperm counts falling) corrupt the legitimacy of this method? That is, what stat is the female equivalent of sperm count? That cacan physical become pregnant / have children but via whatever method choose not to.
