Every American Sport is optimized to be a lubricant for commerce.
The inning interruptions during baseball games, the change of possession in football, the many time outs in the NBA.
American Sports acted as a lube for commerce first in person, when the interruptions would be used to advertise products and services using the PA system, then the same happened with radio, and of course the whole process was put on steroids thanks to TV and then streaming.
Soccer is diffrent, there is only the half time and the rest is free flow game without interruptions.
You will never be able to sell stuff during a game, the best you can do is use the brand of the team or the face of the captain to sell products and services as a testimonial.

There is one free Premier League game most Saturdays on NBC over-the-air television in the U.S. and it is something I really appreciate. There are a few sponsored graphics that look like they might be relevant to the U.S. market but almost no commercial breaks. I hope they can keep doing it because it is a great broadcast, unlike the women's world cup they have British announcers who know something about soccer.
