I find this hard to believe, even in 1945 in Great Britain:
"Hardly anyone will print an attack on Stalin, but it is quite safe to attack Churchill"
Bertrand Russel wrote "The Practice and Theory of Bolshevism" in 1920, but maybe nobody read it.

- crop_rotation 3y agoIt is easy to believe in the context of the world war, as the preface even mentions "our ally". You could criticise Stalin safely before Hitler attacked him but once the Red Army was fighting a bloody battle against the Nazis, it was not the same.
