D&D and keepsake games are set to collide in 2024, and I’m here for it
- jdkee 3y agoThe woke have destroyed the corporate D&D architecture. Old school is the only way to go now.
- webmaven 3y agoI'm having trouble even parsing your comment. Could you explain what you mean without using buzzphrases or potentially polarizing language?
- weregiraffe 3y agoHe can't, he's an NPC work a fixed dialog.
- birracerveza 3y agoIt's intentionally polarizing, not potentially
- weard_beard 3y agoI can't speak to the intentions of the post above but if you're wondering what "wokeness" has to do with D&D I can share a summary of what I know. WoC are removing some content related to race and "half breeds" that editors of the system feel may reflect real life racist attitudes. I personally view this as a positive and hopeful opportunity to refresh and add new content that makes D&D what it is, stranger, weirder, and less entrenched in some of the WWI Tolkien style industrial and racist attitudes that have always been present in fantasy settings.
- deprecative 3y agoI mean - race was always a stupid word to use. They're not races like you or I would use the term for humans. They're a diverse cast of species of humanoid beings with races (as used in common vernacular) of their own.
- bloqs 3y agoPlease explain what the corporate D&D architecture is and how the woke have destroyed it?
- _feus 3y agoI have tried employing ChatGPT as a DM for a "single player" DnD game and it did a pretty good job, so I am waiting for an opportunity to use it in a real game)
- BerislavLopac 3y agoWhile absolutely acknowledging D&D's impact of spreading the hobby of RPGs, it is still one of the worst (at least relative to its popularity) games on the market.
- nolroz 3y agoDo you mind sharing what reasons makes it the worst in your opinion? What alternatives do you prefer?
- wrp 3y agoI'll have a try at why some may feel that way about D&D. Gary Gygax, one of the originators of D&D, was a historical miniatures wargamer. He was also really into fantasy fiction, so he shifted from writing historical to fantasy wargaming rules and also tacked on a storytelling element. The two modes were pretty distinct in his version, and it was others who developed the greater integration you see today. Still, D&D shows its miniatures heritage in being more combat oriented than most later TTRPGs.
- appleflaxen 3y agoI hate the idea of writing campaign details directly in your book, and buying a new book when the campaign ends.
- Ekaros 3y ago40€-50€ investment for single campaign seems rather expensive investment for us regular people. Specially if the campaigns teeters out... And will it just be DMG or also some other books? And what if you have DM that is running multiple campaigns...
