There's an article I saw a couple years ago that theorizes much of our recent productivity gains are just making people do stuff themselves. Groceries, travel, self-serve online stuff, whatever. Add to that the trend to deny people customer service or support and hide behind the internet to prevent contact with an actual person that can solve the problem, I think that gets us closer to an explanation. Also, a pretty big abuse of flagging here.
