My maternal grandfather was a pipe fitter for the railroad. He suffered many years from lung cancer. I remember when they brought in the hospital bed and oxygen tanks so he could suffer and die at home, with my grandmother always by his side. My father worked in asbestos abatement projects, along with cleaning up other kinds of HAZMAT. I doubt that this is a mere coincidence.
