Navigating a dark dirt road in a snowstorm is a piece of cake compared to predicting a drunk pedestrian's walk into the street. This is why I don't have much hope for L5 in the near future.
- peter422 3y agoWait until you hear about what happens when it's the driver who is drunk and not the pedestrian. Autonomous cars can be far from perfect and still safer than human drivers, who all consistently overestimate how safe they are.
- driverdan 3y agoDoesn't make any difference if they're sitting in the middle of the road with their hazards on, refusing to drive.
- Doctor_Fegg 3y agoStatistically, autonomous cars sitting in the middle of the road with their hazards on are also safer than human drivers. As long as there’s space for bikes and pedestrians to get past, it’s probably a net win.
- Dah00n 3y agoIn the TikTok posted in the thread I doubt that the risk of a crash in that situation is less than without the Cruise stopped in the middle of the road. So more dangerous, not less. How safe it is in another situation is irrelevant to any pedestrian risking getting hit there.
