Perl scripts to construct ever more efficient c64 disk images... Just imagine how that notion would have sounded when those disks were being built the first time.
- classichasclass 3y ago(author) Thanks! Ultimately it made me appreciate how much work unwinding these protection schemes were back in the day without emulators or modern debugging tools. A lot of manual drudgery and by-hand execution.
- h2odragon 3y agoUs PC folks had it easy compared to the commie rats. The PC drives wouldn't do that much by comparison to the amazingly ingenious and insane tricks the copy protection schemes on commodores availed themselves of. I had tricked out floppy hardware on my PC and there was c64 disks I couldn't do anything with, still. I could read and write Victor 9000 disks but some of the c64 tricks were even nastier.
