I have found a more convenient way to read and comment on Hacker News articles
- khanhhungus 3y agoit saves me a lot of time switching tabs, bro. But who is your target audience, HN users?
- PaulHoule 3y agoOuch! I couldn't view this page because it was age restricted and not visible unless I logged into Google. Believe it or not I live a full life online and haven't logged into Google for months. Also I think you're stretching it to say a browser extension can ever be more convenient than just browsing stuff on the web, in the few cases you need to put something your bookmark manager you can use the lost art of the bookmarklet. (Deprecated since it can't be used to spam you, track you, track you, spam you, ...) Back in the 1990s I would go visit my family in New England and they'd have 640x480 screens where half of of the vertical space was taken up by "toolbars" from Yahoo, Lycos, Microsoft, Infoseek and other vendors that are mostly forgotten today. Oddly they didn't see anything wrong with it, but some people don't see anything wrong with paying a fee for watching porn to the FBI with an Amazon gift card. Browser extensions are mostly the same these days. Install too many and your browser dies from "pluginitis" so don't be a plughead! I make an exception for plugins that really improve performance such as ad blockers and anti-tracking extensions. Otherwise the most convenient kind of application in all of human history is the ordinary web appplicaion because you never have to install it and you never have to update it and the people who make it can update it without asking permission from the (cr)app store.
- khanhhungus 3y agoI think this is a creative idea, but it may be difficult to find the first users. I hope the HN community can try it out and provide feedback. Good luck guys
