- nabla9 3y agoCritics are right. It's inefficient use of capital. It can take few decades before DAC can get into $100/t of CO2 region where spending capital is justified. Government investments into DAC R&D should increase, of course, but large scale projects now are waste of resources. It's like throwing money into electric cars in 80's. Carbon capture and storage or utilization directly from industrial processes can be cost effective even today. Making steelmaking, cement manufacture, or pulp & paper industry carbon neutral or even carbon negative could be scaled up in the near future.
