Moravec's Paradox
- eternityforest 3y agoThat's why I always say programming is the easiest profession. It's mostly reasoning and very little instinct, spatial intelligence, memory, or anything like that. It's all stuff that can be described and taught. There's nothing like driving where you have to see stop signs and know to stop, but also be able to do other things besides just watch for stop signs, and you have to instantly know where the brake is and not confuse it for the gas. Math seems to be a special case. Math can't be done algorithmically my humans in a practical way. If you did you would be mentally stepping through the code of a CAS solver, and people don't appear to be doing that, plus if someone is doing math outside of school it's likely because no algorithm exists already, so it doesn't appear to be a pure reasoning task in practice despite theoretically being exactly that.
