This article is materially wrong in several respects (as one would expect had they been following Spacelift and their doublespeak around open source - especially from former “devrels”).
This one particularly irks me though:
> Can they do it?
> Yes, they can. They required every contributor to Terraform to sign a CLA that allowed this.
This is untrue, and only covers contributions since the CLA was added, many years after Terraform was started. I for one have never signed it.
- Cpoll 3y agoSo, is it wrong in the context of the question? Would they need to replace or clear all pre-CLA contributions? > Can they do it? Yes, they can.
- jen20 3y ago> Would they need to replace or clear all pre-CLA contributions? Yes, on a per-file basis.
- yencabulator 3y agoSo, does Hashicorp somehow have your permission to relicense Terraform as Business Source License, or are you saying they have violated your copyright on your contribution? https://github.com/hashicorp/terraform/blob/main/LICENSE https://github.com/hashicorp/terraform/blob/main/LICENSE
