Honestly if it were endless shooting I'd like it more -- for me that's the Serious Sam series. Q1/Q2 is a lot about navigating the map and rationing your ammo. Doom 1/2 had more fun pitched battles but also had some very tedious map design -- games where I have to look for corpses to figure out where I've already been hold no nostalgia for me.
- mrbungie 3y agoYes, you're right. 90s-early 2000s/boomer shooters have different levels of "map complexity" ranging from open pseudo-flat landscapes or big rooms ala Serious Sam (afair, I haven't played one in years) with tons of enemies, to more complex mapping and enemy positioning like Q1/Q2/D3D/etc. One can drift naturally to one or another extreme, but the more the variety the better imho. I just enjoy simpler games both in graphics and gameplay.

Additionally I was 12 years old in 1995 which must have helped :)
