The cost in learning curve and weird edge cases on NixOS / flakes is debatable for any language ecosystem with some kind of Python-style virtual env or Rust-style (correctly) build the world.
In C/C++ land? Nix is the virtual env. It’s the only sane choice for that as a user land stack.
