Cool but doesn't fit minifigs? That seems like an odd choice of scale.

- shlubbert 3y agoIt would have to be like 7ft long for that.
- jacquesm 3y agoI'm sure that would sell. There is a reason they show it with an adult in the picture and not with a child. Adults spend crazy amounts of money on Lego.
- FirmwareBurner 3y ago>There is a reason they show it with an adult in the picture and not with a child. Adults spend crazy amounts of money on Lego. Here here. Lego prices today on some sets are just out of whack compared to how they were in my childhood. It feels like Lego's biggest market is now grown men with disposable income who buy overpriced sets for themselves because nostalgia. A guy form a former workplace has a room just for his Lego (no kids). I think they could go even higher than $200 and it would still sell the same.
- zirgs 3y agoLego was expensive during my childhood as well. There's a reason why there were lots of Lego knock-off brick sets that weren't fully compatible (similar size, but wrong tolerances - so they didn't stick together very well) with actual Lego bricks. But adults who bought those sets for their kids didn't know better.
- ant6n 3y agoNowadays, the cheap knock offs are so good that you’re basically only getting the Lego for the name. I was impressed when my wife got one for the kid, but also I somehow don’t want them to mix with the „real“ ones, it’ll be hard to separate them later.
- clintonb 3y agoLEGO sets are generally priced around $0.10 per piece. I've anecdotally noticed this for the past 10 years. Data shows prices have probably decreased since you were born (assuming you're over 25 years old): https://www.reddit.com/r/dataisbeautiful/comments/15flwte/is_lego_getting_more_expensive_oc/ https://www.reddit.com/r/dataisbeautiful/comments/15flwte/is....
- FirmwareBurner 3y ago>Data shows prices have probably decreased since you were born Then I was mistaken. Apologies.
- aacid 3y agoI think particularly the adult oriented sets really don't care about the scale. I guess most adult enthusiasts care more about the building process and display value than playing with mini figures.
- clintonb 3y agoBingo. The competition are the model planes and cars my dad and uncle used to build with the kits from Michael's/MJ Designs. No need to worry about glue and using tweezers to attach tiny pieces.
- Larrikin 3y agoAs an adult that loves LEGO sets with plenty of disposable income, I would not want a seven foot Lego model. The large sets look nice but a set that large would just be a hassle. Would you really want to waste the space of an entire table? The sweet spot seems to be Voltron size. Large enough that it takes time and looks imposing on a shelf. But it will not take up a full shelf and you can even display multiple models. Sometimes I imagine setting up a LEGO storage wall plus desks, but that would be for building and not display.
- rtkwe 3y agoAbsolutely I have tons of Lego UCS, Modular City, and other model sets but 7ft scale is absolutely incompatible with my house. I have the UCS Falcon and Star Destroyer and those are just barely allowed to stay out of storage because the Falcon is on an angled 3rd-party display stand and the Star Destroyer found an unused corner to sit in.
- selectodude 3y agoI wouldn't have much of an issue with a 7ft long lego model, though the 3 foot wide delta wings would make it really, really hard to find a place to put it.
- ourmandave 3y agoIf you want to go with the a different hobby and have $3800USD lying around, there's the flying RC model Concorde. It's 11 feet long. https://www.turbines-rc.com/en/concorde/2019-hm-modelltechnik-concorde-2x90mm-or-turbines-145m-arf.html https://www.turbines-rc.com/en/concorde/2019-hm-modelltechni...
- Tomte 3y agoMany, many sets across the Lego themes aren't minifig scale. You're looking for the City line if you insist on that. How many meters and thousands of dollars would you expect your Concorde set to be?
- jansan 3y agoSome sets with minifigs do not have a realistic scale, or was the death star really just the size of a large mansion?
- Tomte 3y agoTrue, and the Star Wars micro fighters are an even more extreme example.

- codetrotter 3y ago> we consider the height of a Minifigure (4 cm) to be equal to the average human height (170 cm), we can define a LEGO/human ratio of 1:42.5. https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Dimensions-of-a-LEGO-brick-a-LEGO-Minifigure-and-a-human-figure-compared-in-size-and_fig3_361385306#:~:text=...%20we%20consider%20the%20height,human%20ratio%20of%201%3A42.5 https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Dimensions-of-a-LEGO-bri.... Taking that into account I’d say the scale model would maybe be somewhere around 1:32 of the real size (because Lego pieces have a fixed size so you can’t scale everything perfectly). The real life Concordes are ~62 meters long, have a wingspan of ~26 meters, and are about 12 meters high. So at this scale the Lego model would be roughly 2 meters long, approx. 82 cm wide, and somewhere around 40 cm tall. For comparison, the Lego millennium falcon has dimensions 84 x 56 x 21 cm. The real question, I think, is how true to life we require the model to be. Like, the amount of details in it. I could see the 1:32 Lego Concorde costing less than the Lego Millennium Falcon, if some sacrifices were made in detail. So, maybe a price of somewhere around $500 USD could be achievable?
- michaelmcdonald 3y agoThe Saturn V doesn't, either. Can't always scale them to the minifig :(
- rtkwe 3y agoA minifig is roughly 1:25 on the width so a minifig scale Condorde would be 8 foot long with a wingspan of 3.36 feet and a 4 inch wide fuselage. Real world display sets are never minifig scale. There's Microfig scale though that's approximately 1:150 that is used vaguely on sets like the Saturn V but if you scale the set to the real world Saturn V the astronaut microfigs are only 4'4". Roughly crunching the numbers the Concorde set is bigger than microfig scale but way smaller than minifig scale.
- dtagames 3y agoGood point, to those who replied. I stand corrected!
