When I was around 19 I received a phone call offering me a free sample of underwear. No strings attached, I specifically asked if I would have to cancel a subscription and they said no, it's just a free sample. I could subscribe if I wanted to. So I receive my free package of boxers and socks and lo and behold next month I receive another with a bill. I actually liked them so I paid for a while and then I called in and canceled when I felt like I had enough underwear. They kept sending them. I sent an email canceling, they kept sending them. So I sent another email saying that if they send me more stuff I'll consider it a gift and keep it. They kept sending for a few months and eventually stopped. Never even heard from any collections agencies. If I had I figured I'd just show them my emails canceling the service.
