Honestly, I'd even take a cube farm. I've only ever worked at tech companies with fully open offices, or, at best, some cubicle walls up around groups of 10-15 desks.
- quercusa 3y agoI have repented of my bitching about cube farms since discovering there are worse things.
- xeromal 3y agoAye, same. My first job was a cube farm and it was much better than sitting at a giant wooden table with 5000 chairs.
- btilly 3y agoWhen I worked for eBay they had a hexagonal version of a cube farm. I thought it was brilliant. Pack more people into a space, and make your distance to your nearest neighbor farther. Plus you naturally had a comfortable place to sit, 2 filing cabinets, and 2 spots for bookshelf, whiteboard, or whatever. And a lot more desk space than you'd expect. I was always puzzled that nobody else ever tried that design.
- JohnFen 3y agoBefore cubes were a thing, open office layouts were the norm. When cubes were introduced, office workers hailed than as wonderful things because it meant no more of the hell that is open office layouts. Open offices < cubes < private offices Personally, I will never again work in an open office setting, or even a "pod" setup. I've learned my lesson.
