Regarding the spamming or the fees ? ahah
- smoldesu 3y agoRegarding the barrier-to-entry. First off, I don't want to read posts made by people who pay to publish to a Blockchain. I'm fairly convinced their posts don't matter. Secondly, I don't have any reason to try out the service (or visit it continually) if interaction costs money. I think you're creating a system where motivated and financed scammers will have more power over the network than the average user.
- latchkey 3y agoThat is exactly what's happened on DeBank, it is even encouraged with special accounts. People are still eating it up though... usage has soared since they added the Lucky Draw aspect. Tons of fun sybil games being played that are eating into them in ways they never imagined. https://debank.com/official-ranking https://debank.com/official-ranking https://docs.cloud.debank.com/en/official-account/introduction https://docs.cloud.debank.com/en/official-account/introducti...
- smoldesu 3y agoSounds awful, I have no idea why the average user would consider a platform like that. Speaking as a technical user, if I'm going to pay for anything I'd rather it be my own domain and blog/Mastodon server. I'd sooner give up social media entirely than switch to a Blockchain-based model (and good luck convincing everyone who doesn't know what a "wallet" is).
- latchkey 3y agoHence why I'm kind of poking holes in this guys "idea". The optimistic friction is too high to be a general 'twitter' clone. Something like DeBank is a very very niche market that appeals to a very limited group of people, with a very specific focus.
- bleatr 3y ago@smoldesu your opinion is really interesting: what could help to make you change your opinion ?
- latchkey 3y agoAny time you have to 'change' someone's opinion, you're off to a bad start. It is far better to focus on building things people already want vs. trying to convince someone they need something. We call this a 'solution looking for a problem' and it is startup 101.
- bleatr 3y agoyou're right for the "building what people wants" part, in this case, some are interested, other no. The fact that twitter/x is changing, and people deserting Threads could be a sign that people wants something different, but yes, maybe it's too early and there is too much frictions
- bleatr 3y agoYou will see the posts of the people you follow: so even if their is spammers/scammer, you won't see what they post if you don't follow theim Regarding the fees, it would be the chain fees, for example on polygon it's like 0.00001$
- rsynnott 3y agoThere is, I think, a bit of a disconnect here; crypto people have long since internalised a theory that people want to use micro-transactions for absolutely everything (they are strongly incentivised to believe this, of course); at this point many are in so deep that they just don't realise that to the average person this is pretty off-putting. I think most people would assign negative value to someone paying to post (that is, someone who has to pay for attention is probably less deserving of your attention than someone who doesn't) but I suspect that many crypto enthusiasts genuinely don't realise that this is the case.
