Bleatr: A full blockchain based Twitter like service
Hi folks,
I'm working on a full blockchain based twitter like service. Everything will be store on-chain: followers/following, posts, etc. Medias will be stored on IPFS.
The current landing page: https://bleatr.com/
Don't hesitate to tell me what do you think about this idea, or which features would you like to have on this service. The smart contract is almost ready, i'm just thinking about creating a token dedicated for this, or using an existing crypto (MATIC/POL, SOL, TRON ...)
The fact that the blockchain will be used to store everything means:
- no censorship
- no spam (fees)
- easy to remunerate other people
- and more to imaginate
Thx for your feedbacks
- appleflaxen 3y agoI think this looks super cool! Thanks for developing it.
- bleatr 3y agowhat function that is missing (or not) on twitter would you like to see on Bleatr?
- smoldesu 3y ago> no spam (fees) What is my incentive to participate then?
- bleatr 3y agoRegarding the spamming or the fees ? ahah
- smoldesu 3y agoRegarding the barrier-to-entry. First off, I don't want to read posts made by people who pay to publish to a Blockchain. I'm fairly convinced their posts don't matter. Secondly, I don't have any reason to try out the service (or visit it continually) if interaction costs money. I think you're creating a system where motivated and financed scammers will have more power over the network than the average user.
- latchkey 3y agoThat is exactly what's happened on DeBank, it is even encouraged with special accounts. People are still eating it up though... usage has soared since they added the Lucky Draw aspect. Tons of fun sybil games being played that are eating into them in ways they never imagined. https://debank.com/official-ranking https://debank.com/official-ranking https://docs.cloud.debank.com/en/official-account/introduction https://docs.cloud.debank.com/en/official-account/introducti...
- smoldesu 3y agoSounds awful, I have no idea why the average user would consider a platform like that. Speaking as a technical user, if I'm going to pay for anything I'd rather it be my own domain and blog/Mastodon server. I'd sooner give up social media entirely than switch to a Blockchain-based model (and good luck convincing everyone who doesn't know what a "wallet" is).
- latchkey 3y agoHence why I'm kind of poking holes in this guys "idea". The optimistic friction is too high to be a general 'twitter' clone. Something like DeBank is a very very niche market that appeals to a very limited group of people, with a very specific focus.
- bleatr 3y ago@smoldesu your opinion is really interesting: what could help to make you change your opinion ?
- latchkey 3y agoAny time you have to 'change' someone's opinion, you're off to a bad start. It is far better to focus on building things people already want vs. trying to convince someone they need something. We call this a 'solution looking for a problem' and it is startup 101.

- latchkey 3y agoTake a look at DeBank, they've done something interesting recently with a sort of web3 wallet based twitter wall and some interesting features. They have a L2 network for funds, and the ability to do Lucky Draws where people give away "money". It worked so well, they've had to put all sorts of limitations on it.
- latchkey 3y agoThis has the classic chicken/egg problem, only now you've thrown a web3 wallet and ipfs pinning, into the list of things that people have to deal with.
- bleatr 3y agothere are some browsers already web3 ready, like Brave. Also, the first target would be for sure web3 people before massive adoption
- qup 3y agoI don't think the "next twitter" will get there by calling itself a "twitter killer"
- rozenmd 3y agocounterpoint to "no spam (fees)" - this is called advertising, and folks are more than willing to pay if it makes them more money.
- verdverm 3y ago> The fact that the blockchain will be used to store everything means ... lots of really bad (CSAM) or other illegal content you cannot take down, incredible amounts of toxicity, manipulation to abuse the underlying token mechanics, endless phishing and related malicious activity to reassign tokens from plebs to hackers For users, storing their posts, follows, likes, etc on a public ledger means that anyone can request their history and do whatever they like with it, in particular the same things the capitalist social media does, but now anyone can read all your data. Yes, this is definitely what people want...
