You have to own an ID document (Pass or Personalausweis) in Germany, but you don't have to carry it with you.
- LudwigNagasena 3y agoMaybe I misinterpret it, but the law says “[Germans] must present their identity card at the request of an authority entitled to check identification.” I guess they won’t mind if it’s at your home a casual drive away, but if you live in another city?
