So what prevents people from creating new accounts and acquiring new favors ? May be you should keep a mobile number verification....
- mcrittenden 15y agoAt this point, nothing. If/when that proves to be a problem (probably sooner rather than later if the idea/site proves popular), then my initial plan is to verify emails, require unique emails on registration (obviously), and keep email addresses of deleted accounts on file for a short amount of time. That would keep someone from deleting an account and immediately recreating it with the same email, so the person would instead have to use a different valid address per account, which probably is more trouble than it's worth to just participate in the site (at least doing that would be kind of fun). Any thoughts on that? Your idea of mobile number verification is also an option, although it's a little too extreme for me to try unless things get bad.
- adamjernst 15y agoIf you use Gmail, you can easily work around this: myname+394@gmail.com myname+blah@gmail.com myname+randomstr@gmail.com all route to myname@gmail.com.
- wonderercat 15y ago...which is easily defeated by a regex, no?
- ceejayoz 15y agouser.name@gmail.com is the same as us.er.na.me@gmail.com, too. Far less trivially defeated, as the period has meaning in many other e-mail systems.
- aiscott 15y agomany sites, to my irritation, don't allow the + symbol in their email validation code.
- meow 15y agoLike the other comments noted, you won't go far with email verification alone (they might even use a completely unrelated email address). You can probably use a combination of email address similarity and ip address uniqueness but I think mobile verification would be much more reliable(and thanks to cheap sms via twilio, won't break your bank)
