"These groups who are leaving Twitter" are over half the advertisers.
Sucks indeed. My popcorn however is ready for Elon's gradual change of heart as the losses accumulate.
- jfengel 3y agoI can't see a gradual change of heart working out for him. Twitter works only because everybody else is already there. Once people start leaving in large numbers, their friends will already be at the other place, and there won't be anything at X to draw them back. It seems to me his best strategy is to let it happen. Lean in to the customers he particularly wants. It's a much smaller and less lucrative base than he paid for, but I don't think he ever expected a profit. I think he wanted a big thumb on the scale of the global dialogue, and he might as well play that out. Obviously that has cost him more than he expected, but he can afford the loss. Rather than admit he was wrong, he might as well continue to insist that he's right and wait for the universe to agree with him. Besides, maybe he really can make something genuinely compelling with his WeChat clone/"everything app". I doubt it, but he's rich and I'm not. (I did make a tidy profit buying TWTR stock below his offer price. I donated it to a local food bank. But that was 5 figures, not 10.)
