> TOO MANY ADS CLUTTER THE MAP
...he complained, in an article on a website where 30% of vertical space is used by an autoplay video ad featuring an idiot asking me whether I'd eat "mustard Skittles".
Ironic.
- prepend 3y agoI was never able to stop the auto play video. Just make it small and pinned to the bottom. Playing something and wasting data the whole time I read the article.
- chaps 3y agoAnd one of the advertisement's X doesn't work and just opens the link. It'd be funny if it wasn't sad.
- ajnin 3y agoOut of admittedly slightly perverse curiosity I opened the site without adblock : at some point when scrolling the whole page is covered with ads. An eyesore indeed.
- mats852 3y agoCurious. I don't see any ads ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
- lopkeny12ko 3y agoIf you're not using an adblocker in this day and age in 2023, you're doing it wrong.
- hughes 3y agoIt got through AdGuard on iOS Safari. Is there a better option?
- dmix 3y agoMobile doesn't have ad blocking, at least on iOS. Which is why I pay for Youtube premium.
- adoyle 3y agoI'm a huge fan of https://nextdns.io https://nextdns.io which works on iOS.
- tradewinds 3y agoYou can get ad blockers on Safari iOS. I think I have AdBlocker and Wipr. They don't work quite as well as a legitimate adblocker extension IMO, but I'm pretty sure they block a big number of ads and other garbage.
- maremp 3y agoAdGuard works in Safari, and can block ads on youtube. I’ve been using this setup for years now and it’s been without problems. The experience is obviously not as good as the app, but it does what it’s supposed to, and I think the worse UX a plus because I do not spend as much time on the platform.
- LeoPanthera 3y agoAdGuard works in iOS Safari for free. (The Mac version is also good.) (Although you should continue to pay for YouTube Premium. I do, it's well worth it.)
- kulahan 3y agoBrave browser has it built in, and there is a way to download an app to use specifically as an adblocker, though I forget how. I remember it not working very well, which is why I just gave up and use Brave instead.
- avalys 3y agoI prefer to just not visit websites that are full of obnoxious ads. I find it's a good screening technique for garbage content that isn't worth reading in the first place. Unsurprisingly, there's a significant correlation between useless sensationalized clickbait articles and websites fully of intrusive trashy ads.
