Those were massive investigations, and yet the yielded little attention. Simply do opinion pieces about migration, climate or gender and you'll get a hundred times the attention (and ads.) Newspapers no longer have the news alone, they don't have a used-item market (ebay) or real estate ads. Those were cross-funding the real journalism. Look no further than Trump to see how much "the people" care about the truth.
