Realms of the Haunting is unique. I’d love a modern remake. Folks who haven’t played this-the playthrough by Kikoskia is quite interesting: https://www.youtube

- giobox 3y agoI’d argue it’s a poor system shock clone with FMV in a haunted house, personally. The “uniqueness” in my eyes is really the fact it’s an archetypal 90s FMV game, and no one makes FMV games anymore really - they died out just as FPS/3d games took off. The remaining elements can be found in other games. Thus few other games blended system shock style exploration/combat with FMV given the timeline, but others, especially the “immersive sim” genre, still have similar styles of first person exploration, combat and story telling. It doesn’t usually get attention as one in my experience, but there are definitely significant immersive sim elements to RotH, especially the manner in which you can uncouple the mouse from aim looking to then interact with the environment, much like the aforementioned system shock. I played it on release and played it again a few years ago - it has a certain charm for all its many, many faults. If you enjoy the silliness of many 90s FMV titles, this is one of the best in that regard.
