There is a saying, "its not what you know, but who you know that matters".
That is still very true today, despite what university's might have you believe.
When looking at where innovation has come from, chemicals have always played a part beit the body's own dreamy hallucinogens which accounts for the saying "sleep on it", increasing/decreasing chemicals normally found in our diet and sometimes man made chemicals when looking at Francis Crick.
"Soon after Crick's death, there have been allegations about him having used LSD when he came to the idea of the helix structure of the DNA. While he almost certainly did use LSD, it is unlikely that he did so as early as 1953." [1]
One thing is also certain, the victor (or first to market) writes the history books, and history is always being rewritten.
