It's most likely not so consumer-friendly. This kind of bullshit has gone on for years, notably in the mattress industry. Mattress companies are famous for simply slapping different model numbers on the same mattresses sold to each retailer, to undermine price guarantees. No doubt HP, Sony, and who knows who else pulls the same shit with merchandise sold to Costco.
