This article seems like a stretch to me. Microsoft is pushing their online services, and even have a VDI solution, but neither of those things will likely ever cause the Windows desktop to dye by any stretch of the imagination. Moreover, having lived through the thin client experiment of the mid 2000s, I can't see VDI ever taking off in the short term, especially at Microsoft's price point either. M365 is brilliant in many ways, but it serves to augment the Windows desktop today, not replace it.
