- refurb 15y agoIt's a combination of the scientific challenges in finding a new drug and the safety hurdles that the FDA puts up. Most of that 10 years is taken up by the clinical trials that the FDA requires. I guess you could say it's the price of having access to thoroughly tested drugs that are both safe and efficacious.
