- abdullahkhalids 3y agoI have an OT question for those familiar with such software. I am interested in characterizing the notes of a particular musical instrument. Meaning, I want to provide it a recording of a single note played once, and it should tell me the base frequency of the note. Then repeat for every note. The goal is to understand how different build dimensions and materials for the instrument effect the frequencies of the notes. Obviously, I could just do a fourier transform on each recording. But I am wondering if there are specialized libraries or software that make this easier, or do other interesting calculations or visualizations that are currently in my unknown unknowns.
- crtified 3y agoMDFourier has been an occasional discussion topic in the (video game) emulation community for a few years now. Analyses showing in fine scientific detail how accurately different implementations are matching original hardware. In that area, it has been considered somewhat of a gold standard in audio comparison testing. MDFourier deserves to be far better known, and widely used. However, past forum discussions also highlighted that the audio(phile) community does include some cynical elements whose vested interests and self-built narratives would rather not be exposed to hard science.
