Logically, if it was as easy to get promoted or move to a new job as shaking a hand and talking over the bar, people would move around more often. But because current job ads above minimum wage ones are looking for degrees and multiple calls spread over a few weeks and certain skills/portfolio/hisory, it's a big barrier even before talking about studying the interview specific skills
