- zirgs 3y agoSo does steam if game developers choose it. Lots of games on steam are DRM free.
- deely3 3y agoWait, you can easily and officially run these game without internet and without Steam client installed? Could you point me to these DRM free Steam games? I have the impression that games from Steam doesnt work without actually Steam.
- zirgs 3y agoAs I said - it depends on the developer. Integrating Steam DRM is completely optional. Here's a list of some of those games: https://steam.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_DRM-free_games https://steam.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_DRM-free_games For those games Steam acts as a download/update manager and nothing more. You can run them even without the Steam client.
- deely3 3y agoThank you, I had no idea.
- yetihehe 3y agoWhile I like GOG, I must say that they don't support linux, they merely sometimes make it possible to download binaries which may work on linux if you do everything yourself.
- tommica 3y agoThank God for lutris
- Rebelgecko 3y agoCan't you just download the Windows binaries and use Proton, just like with a native steam game?
- yetihehe 3y agoI tried, but not every game works out of the box yet. Sometimes you need to do a lot of work to play a game on linux, on windows you just click "next" several times. Also, they don't provide linux launcher, you first have to find that you can indeed download those games manually, navigate to your library in a special way and then you can download something that might work.
- phone8675309 3y agoLutris helps significantly with this
- severino 3y ago> While I like GOG, I must say that they don't support linux, they merely sometimes make it possible to download binaries which may work on linux if you do everything yourself. They have an actual "Games for Linux" section (https://www.gog.com/en/games/linux https://www.gog.com/en/games/linux). I guess that should mean anything more than just "this may work on Linux if you compile this kernel and use this version of wine with these patches".
- yetihehe 3y agoYeah, that's a LITTLE more support. I didn't found this section when I was seaarching for some games, but then I'm not an avid gamer.
