Three-quarters of Republicans think economy is priority over climate – poll
- gardenfelder 3y ago>Survey finds 53% of Americans think addressing climate crisis should be given priority but 72% of Republicans say otherwise
- TheRealSteel 3y agoNo economy on a dead planet.
- catchnear4321 3y agono brunch, either
- Blackstrat 3y agoOnly 3/4? Of course, the economy is a priority. As it should be. There are no solutions to any ecological issue without strong and growing economies.
- quantified 3y agoWhy not? Weak economies can shut down all kinds of ecological problems. Close a bunch of emitters, reduce the food produced.
- Blackstrat 3y agoAnd the population. Let’s just exterminate all living people. Or go back to living in caves, etc. These utopian fantasies are absurd and don’t address the actual issues.
- quantified 3y agoThat does not provide the causal connection from weaker economy to worse ecological outcomes.
- h2odragon 3y agoConveniently, neither "fix the Economy" nor "fix the Climate" have tangible goals to achieve, making a poll like this about as meaningful as "what's your favorite color?" Seriously, what's the goals? Make sure no one makes more or less money than anyone else? "everyone free from want?" really? everybody can agree on that? When does my want obligate you to serve me, and vice versa? Similarly with climate, we need to lower CO2 below pre-human levels? which time period did you mean? How about just removing massive numbers of humans? There's suggestions all over the range from reasonable to insane but the issue is more complicated than the simple "kiss our totem" demanded by those pushing it.
