Al Gore sensitized his layman audience of this effect in his invited talks (c. early 2000s), as slow boiling the toad. It is also a part of the "An Inconvenient Truth" documentary (2006), which is quite a relevant discourse even today. If you haven't watched it, I recommend you should - it is quite accessible, & well explained considering it was made almost 2 decades ago.
