The brutality of the Japanese military didn't mean innocent Japanese civilians deserved to suffer or die. I don't know what nationality you are, but I have no doubt that members of your country's military - very possibly within your lifetime - have committed atrocities, even if not at the same scale as in Nanjing. Do you feel personally responsible or deserving of retribution?
