Of course he does this. Does anyone honestly think he's for absolute free speech? It's human nature to do this kind of thing unfortunately for most humans they are just not in the position of power to do these things. So while we all stand on our individual soap boxes espousing an opinion about an issue such as free speech or others at some point we will find that that very opinion can be turned and used against us. When you're a millionaire or a billionaire or in some other position of power you can fight back. For ordinary people they are forced to realize the old adage of, be careful what you wish for because you might get it.
Ron Paul, famously libertarian, decided he wanted to sue his own followers to get their domain name. Literally turned and attacked his own people in the most non-libritarian way instead of doing the obvious libertarian thing of buying the domain name when they offered to sell it to him.
His son Rand Paul exhibits the same level of hypocrisy in espousing libertarian views. When the proposal came up to require manufacturers of smart devices to simply disclose their monitoring capabilities of speech and video etc... His libertarianism fought against it because he is a libertarian for big business so they can obscure what they do and spy on customers without telling them and he is not a libertarian for the individual to understand the products that they're purchasing and what their abilities are.
Rules for me and rules for thee, all people in positions of power follow that, because they can.
- thefurdrake 3y ago> Does anyone honestly think he's for absolute free speech? I can't imagine why one might think he's for absolute free speech. It couldn't be because he called himself a free speech absolutist publicly, could it? There must be a different explanation...
- elmerfud 3y agoI also can't imagine who would truly think that. Who's the bigger fool? The fool who said it or the fool who believes it? So it would seem that the different explanation would be the one that I offered. That humans conveniently hide behind the lies that they want until they are used against them. Which is what your last statement is about. Sure you'll absolutely trust everything that a person says and wander around and disbelief when they act against what they said saying I don't understand what happened. I guarantee the way you live your life does not conform to that. You listen to what someone says and then you judge based upon their actions and not their words. We all do that so you're sarcasm aside I know you don't live your life as a trusting fool otherwise you would not be here to comment.
