I nearly got nailed by an e-bike the last time I was in Manhattan, going against traffic in a pedestrian lane. They seem to have proliferated in the last year or so. The trouble seems to be that people are trying to maintain a biker's traditional laissez-faire attitude toward traffic laws on a vehicle that can do 30+ mph and accelerate with electric torque.
