You are literally posting this complaint to a social media site.
For me I'm on mastodon to shitpost, discuss media with friends, my account is locked and I only allow followers who give off good vibes. There is nothing narcistic about it, it isn't even tied to my IRL identity.
- uhtred 3y agoNot really, HN is a forum.
- zichy 3y agoDo you realize that a forum is social media?
- uhtred 3y agoNo it's not, forums were around on the internet long before the term "social media" existed. Same with comments on a newspaper article, they are not social media.
- DRW_ 3y agoJust because the term "social media" came later and was popularised by certain kinds of social media networks, it doesn't mean it doesn't encompass regular old fashioned forums too. What is this right now other than a social interaction about a piece of media (the article)? This is a very arbitrary distinction for you to draw.
- uhtred 3y agosee comment below. you are wrong no matter how nerdy your logic.
- pessimizer 3y agoAh, "everyone knows." The only argument that can't possibly work against anyone.
- uhtred 3y agoI could replace "everyone knows" with "it's common sense"
- wiml 3y agoI'm just here for the spectacle of someone using the "you are nerdy, therefore wrong" argument on hacker news, of all places.
- uhtred 3y agoyou're here for the upvotes and validation that your comment was witty

- rsynnott 3y ago"That's a cat." "No it's not, those were around long before the word 'cat' existed".

- kalleboo 3y agoThe term "social media" was coined in 1997 in reference to AOL chatrooms. It can totally apply to web forums as well.
