- melling 3y agoThe world needs oil and gas. 100 million barrels of oil a day. You know what’s far worse than oil and gas? Coal. Someone posted this about coal this morning: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36942118 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36942118 I can’t believe in 2023, we burn more coal than ever: https://www.cnbc.com/2023/07/27/coal-consumption-hit-an-all-time-high-in-2022-iea-says.html https://www.cnbc.com/2023/07/27/coal-consumption-hit-an-all-...
- musiciangames 3y agoThe government also announced funding for carbon capture projects. It would seem to be smart to offer the extraction licenses in conjunction with carbon capture amounting to say 125% of the carbon resulting from the oil. The fact that they didn’t suggest that the CCS part is not financially viable, and not about to be.

Except: 'Where are we going to put those millions of tons of CO2 over the life of that power station?'
