Funny enough some of the craziest crosswind landings I’ve seen were old 747 landing videos at Hong Kong’s old Kai Tak. Wonder if Cathay Pacific still has those pilots on staff.
- ksec 3y agoI doubt it. It used to be some of the best and experienced pilots before you can land Kai Tak. And that was 26 years ago. If they were 30s then they would be close to 60s now. Not to mention stupid Cathay forced early retirement for a lot of their pilots during COVID. But yeah, Kai Tok was fun.
- atonse 3y agoGood point, they would've been the senior-most pilots back then so many have probably long retired. Plus who wants to go back to land straight in a boring approach after you've done the checkerboard approach at Kai Tak? :-)
