- russellbeattie 3y agoThis has probably been discussed before but GenX is definitely divided into 3 subgroups because of technology. My older brother born in the mid 60s didn't see a computer in school until he graduated in 1984. I was given lessons on a TRS-80 in 3rd grade, then Apple IIs and finally Macs by when I graduated in 1990. Someone born 7 years later than me (1979, the last year of GenX) played with the NES as their first console and the web, email and mobile phones were a thing by the time they graduated in 1997. The rate of change in 20 years is astounding, especially how they affected children. Those of us who were techies actually lean more towards the latter because we were excited by the tech and more readily adopted it. There are many in my cohort who didn't really use the internet regularly until their first smartphone in the 2010s, as crazy as that seems.
