Saw the best explanation in a college newspaper:
Girl: “Do you know what Pinterest is?”
Guy: “Yeah, it’s like porn for girls.”
Girl [blank look]: “What ...?”
Guy: “Girls enjoy that as much as guys enjoy porn.”
