I use a Git GUI (Magit) and I compromise nothing on power. The only time I ever need to run git from the command line is to use a nice utility called "git-forest" (from here: http://dev.medozas.de/gitweb.cgi?p=hxtools;a=summary http://dev.medozas.de/gitweb.cgi?p=hxtools;a=summary ), and the only reason for that is that it uses ANSI color codes to make things readable, so it requires an actual terminal.
